Skate with the Canmore Eagles

The Canmore Eagles will be skating outdoors at the Banff High School rink on Wednesday Jan 16th at 4:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to skate with the players and get to know them including Banff local and BMH alumnus Kazu Prevost, #21 LW for the Eagles.

The next Canmore Eagles game in Banff is also coming up soon, Wednesday Jan 23 at 7:00 pm the Canmore Eagles will face the Calgary Canucks at the Fenlands Arena.

Pittsburgh Penguins Visit Banff

Hundreds of cheering minor hockey players from Banff and Canmore turned out to watch the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday (Oct. 21) at the Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre arena for two team practice sessions in the resort town. Read the full article from the Rocky Mountain Outlook.

Referee Clinic - October 28th in Canmore

Hockey Alberta is offering two officiating clinics, one for youths (age 13 and up) and one for adults. Both are open to new and previous referees. The Bow Valley is always in need of additional referees, this is your chance to help.

registration deadline: October 18th

Official Clinic – Beginner Youth

  • Officiating Experience: 0-2 years
  • Who: Level 1 Officials (Ages 13, 14, 15) / Level 2 Officials (Ages 16, 17, 18)
  • Divisions Officiated: Novice, Atom, Peewee
  • When/Where: Sunday, Oct 28 8am – 5pm, 1800-8 Ave Canmore, AB

Official Clinic – All levels adult

  • Officiating Experience: All Levels
  • Who: Officials 19+ Years of Age (Level 2, 3, 4, 4L or 5, 6)
  • Divisions Officiated: All levels

If you have referee experience or are interested in becoming a referee these are the prerequisites:

  • You must register 10 days in advance, registration deadline: October 18th
  • You must be at least 13 years of age
  • All adult Officials will have to have a valid Criminal Record Check, completed via, prior to being eligible to register for this clinic

If you are a brand new official, before you can register for this clinic, you must:

  1. Create an eHockey account
  2. Search for yourself and add yourself as a participant.
  3. Complete the HU – Officiating 1/2 online course.

Pond Hockey (ages 13-17) starts October 16

It’s not too late to sign up for Pond Hockey, which runs Tuesdays from 8:30pm – 9:30pm starting October 16th. Perfect for high-school teens, the program is affordably priced at $300 for the season.

Power Skating

All Novice, Atom and Peewee players get eight sessions of power skating with coaching from Banff Hockey Academy at the start of the season, but our friends at Banff Skating Club also offer a PowerSkate program that compliments our practice schedule. Information below:

Power Tuesday​ with the Banff Skating Club starting September 25th

Gain the balance, power, agility and speed needed to be the MVP of your team!!! PowerSkate​ is an action-packed, high energy​ instructional power skating program geared to hockey skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed​ and endurance​. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations. PowerSkate provides an alternative to figure skating and is an excellent complement for those athletes playing on hockey teams.

  • Initiation & Novice aged skaters: 4-4:45pm ​(with the exception of Sept. 25th which is @ 7-7:45pm)
  • Atom & Peewee aged skaters: 4:45-5:30pm​ ​(with the exception of Sept. 25th which is @ 7:45-8:30pm)

Fall 2018- 210$, Winter 2019- 200$ Commit to the full year= 350$ ​(+35$ Skate Canada Fee)

Come join us at our one day TRY-IT session Tuesday September 18th @ 4:15-5:15 pm. Session is FREE- Call 403-762-1251 to register.

CanPowerSkate is geared to skaters aged approximately six or older who already have basic forward and backward skating skills (they must be able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides) and are able to stop on command without use of the boards. For safety reasons participants should wear full hockey equipment that is CSA approved. The coach to skater ratio is 1:10.
